<text>My dear Dr.Stearns,

Please pardon the stationary.

Inclose please find a detailed account of the 300.00 dollars which you sent me on March 16, 1927. Please look it over to see as whether or not it is satisfactory. I think you will find all the imformation [sic] of the various signs at the end of the third account sheet.

The money went faster than I expected. It was mainly on account of my joining the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. I did not know that D.U. wanted me, so I did not figure on that in my financial needs. Just the Fraternity alone cost me $64.25. I had to pay the College $65.00 for the balance of my bill, and 60 for a 4-piece suit. These three data amount up to $189.25. I will thankful if you will send me another check before the middle of the next week. The college is coming to an end, and there is alway [sic] the usual rush, so in order to avoid complication, I rather have the financial part settled. I wrote to the Mass. Water Supply Commission about three weeks ago, and as yet I have not heard from them. The chances are that I do not get a position. In case if I do get the position, I do not expect to receive more than 12 or 15 dollars a week. I will need around three hundred for the entire summer. So please send me the amount stated above, and I will be very thankful.

The college ends on the 15th of June, but that includes all the commence exercises, etc. I do not plan to remain for that., but I do plan to go to Andover at around the 10th or 15th of June. I shall give you the exact date later.

Please let me know Charlie's, Mary's, and Arthur’s plans for the summer. If I do not get a position to work this summer, I shall for the most part either remain in Andover for part of the vacation, or go to North Bridgton, where the Long Lake Lodges, for a while. I have not, however, made my plan for the entire summer yet that is if I do not get the position I applied for.

Please answer me at your earliest convenience.

Very truly yours</text>

                <text>Dear Dr. Stearns:

I hope that you have received the statement of my account. I am now in a financial difficulty and it is necessary that I should pay off several laundry bills and other minor ones. I now have only eighteen cents to my name, and I will very much obliged if I can receive the $300.00 I asked for before the end of this week. I will do my best to make that sum last through the summer. In case if you have sent the money already, please disregard this note.

I have not heard yet from the Mass Water Supply Commission about the work this summer. In case if I do not hear from them at all, I shall follow the plan of which I wrote to you last time.

I receive a letter from Charlie this morning stating that he plans to go to Boston again this summer, whether or not he will go to the Harvard Sumner School, I do not know. He just said that he will go to Boston around the 17th of this month. I also plan to join him in Boston. We shall stay with Arthur.

The final examinations come within a week and I have hope to pass all my subject as I did the last time. But the English Litterature [sic] is causing me considerable worry. I shall do my best. However I am not making statements as to my results.

There is a question whether or not I want to go to the Harvard Summer School if I pass all my subjects. I leave that for you to decide.

I shall be in Andover on the 16th of this month.

Sincerely yours</text>

Dear Mary:

Many, many thanks for your birthday greeting. I found your message on my desk last night, just before the actual day was over and on my return from several days' absence from town. As I was on the train all day, I can't say that there was very much to suggest a birthday, but that is one of the penalties of getting old.

Trusting that the year is rounding out smoothly and satisfactorily for you and with best wishes for the summer, believe me

Faithfully yours, </text>

Dear Dr. Stearns:

In about a week from now, I think, you shall be most busy, and it is then when I shall need money very badly; so I am asking you now to kindly send me my allowance for this summer. Thank you, Sir, in advance.

Please do not feel obliged to answer this my letter, which itself is only a short note, for I am at present rather busy with my work, and besides the final examinations are due in a week.

With my best wishes to our track team and baseball team,

I am,

Obediently yours,

Dear Mary:

I have just received your letter of May 24, and, while I do not wish to dictate in connection with your summer plans, I am sure that you ought to arrange to spend a little time, at least, with Arthur and Charlie in Boston before Arthur starts for home. I am equally sure that your father would approve of this arrangement, though it involved some extra expense and would be unhappy if it were not carried out. You and Arthur and Charlie can decide among you what is the best time for the visit, but be sure that you make it.

Perhaps you are taking the right courses in Elmira, but I must admit that I find it a bit difficult to appreciate what you are going to do with your Chemistry, Entomology, and Mineral Resources when you get back to China, unless you are planning to be a mining or civil engineer.

With all good wishes, believe me

Faithfully yours, </text>
