My dear Dr. Stearns:

I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter of June 29th, and am very much disappointed to learn that my ward, P. Y. Liang has not made greater progress in his work in your school. I have asked him down to York and made a thorough investigation of his failure. Having done so, I quite agree with you that he needs personal and intimate guidance in his studies. Will you please be so kind as to recommend a school suitable for this boy?

Thanking you for your kind attention, I am

Yours very sincerely,

Dear Sir,

I am writing to inquire about your academy and desire to know whether it will be possible for your academy to take in three boys this term, one speaking English fairly well and the other two very little. They have been studying in Keystone Academy for the past few months two of them having had a private teacher and the other one taking the regular academic course. The one taking the academic course is a Freshman and no doubt will enter your academy as one. Would also like to know when your new term begins, the tuition fees amounting to how much, boarding etc. Could it be possible for you to arrange to have a special private teacher for the two boys who speak very little English? I am these three boys' guardian and if you will kindly mail me suitable information at your earliest convenience, I shall be much obliged. I would like to have them start this coming new term if possible.

Awaiting your early reply, I am

I have decided to have Mr.Liang study in your academy starting when the new term begins in February or thereabouts. The two other boys, as you suggested, deem it wise to have them study for the balance of the year in some small home school where they will be compelled to talk English and can study English to the fullest extent. Will you kindly recommend them to a school of that sort and see to it that they are separated from each other so that they can improve their English more rapidly? As soon as you locate such a school please write to me in detail concerning such and I shall give it my consideration.
