He was fearful of trachoma, but he has only a simple conjunctivitis. He has, however, only about half sight, due to apparent myopic astigmatism, and this needs correction. I think it would be safer to use belladonna, so I have asked him to make an appointment for Wednesday. He ought to be here by two o’clock, so that I can put the drops in and I will reserve him for his examination later. Young Euston also came in and although he is having no trouble, I think it necessary to correct a little myopic astigmatism in his right eye. Arrangements have been made with him to come in next Wednesday. Chang however, will have to be told of this arrangement. I kept them waiting yesterday, because my regular appointments prevented ray giving them immediate attention. Sir: There is pending decision before this office application placed by CHAM (CHIS) HIM CHEUNG for indorsement as a native of the United States, claiming "birth in San Francisco, Calif., in March of 1906. The said CBM HU CHEUNG appears to have entered Phillips Academy as a student during December, 1922, or in the early part of 1923, and continued in attendance there for about two and one-half years, proceeding then to Hamilton College, Clinton, N.T., in which institution he is registered as a senior pupil under the name of HIN CHEUNG CHAN. Such records as we hold relating to CHAN HIN CHEUNG show him on at least three occasions to have testified under oath to birth in China during March of 1906. The names which he gives for his parents are at great variance with those which he has heretofore given, all of which must be regarded as indicative of a false claim in the present instance. S. Tseng who is with us at camp this summer. We are unable to connect with the person who is financially responsible for Tseng’s bills. If he were an American boy we should have sent him home early in the summer but realizing that he is in a foreign land and that he apparently has no place to go, we have kept him along rather than to turn him loose. The aggravating thing it that the boy seems to have a very abundant supply of ready money and we are wondering if he has not been given by his guardian the money for his tuition expenses and has not kept it for his own use. He has certainly made an impression in the neighborhood as a very liberal spender. We feel that he is concealing the proper address of his guardian or whoever handles his finances in this country and Mr. Hinman asked me to write you for advices or suggestions. Any assistance you can give us will, I assure you, be appreciated. As for his studies, the boy has done good work and for a number of weeks during the summer has been on the camp Honor Roll. He has, however, shown only a slight understanding of American business procedure and we are getting rather tired of his methods.
