My only basis for it is the examinations he wrote in June and similar experiences with other boys. The examinations showed that he hasn’t the working knowledge he ought to have in both Arithmetic and Algebra. I believe he should tutor first in Arithmetic. If, in addition to being able to answer correctly such questions as occur on our past Arithmetic examinations he can be prepared to enter Algebra [2?], work in Algebra should be taken up this summer. I am mailing several of the former examination papers. In English, the boy should have practice in spelling, grammar, and composition. Their calendar states that resident pupils are due Monday, September 24. Mrs. Richardson was in one day this week and asked for this same information. Perhaps you know that Miss Jones is in the hospital. She had her tonsils taken out Wednesday morning, and Mrs. Burtt told me this morning that she was getting along nicely but that visitors have been excluded so far as the doctors didn’t want her to talk.
