I only regret that I did not know of these long ago, for I have tried to keep these accounts squared up from month to month and supposed that I had already met the bills incurred by you in Helen’s behalf. It seems almost impossible to get Boston stores to send bills for my Chinese wards direct to me, but perhaps the mix-up was only natural in this instance under the circumstances. My main regret is that you should have had to wait so long for your money. I am enclosing checks to cover accounts as rendered, and, since I will not have for filing purposes the customary receipts from the films involved, may I trouble you to send and return the accompanying receipt for the amount specified, covering the bills of White and Filene's. In the case of Conrad’s bill, I have made the check out to the firm, though perhaps I am wrong in doing this. The slips rendered give no indication of whether the bills have been already paid by you or not and, since there is no indication of the receipt, I am assuming that the bill has not yet been paid and am making the check out on that understanding.
