Yes, I had read about that big fire in Amherst, and it reminded me of the night many years ago when, as a small boy, I watched a similar fire which destroyed the whole of that Main Street block from the Amherst House down to and including the Hunt’s Block where the bank is now located. I can imagine what a fire the old Amherst House must have made, but I hope that the now building that rises on its sight will add a little more to the beauty of the town than did that somewhat ungainly structure.
