Thank you, too, for your friendly thoughtfulness in sending the tea, the arrival of which I shall await with interest and pleasant anticipation. I can assure you that it will be thoroughly appreciated and enjoyed when it comes. I am enclosing Alfred's report for the term just ended, and I am glad to say that this indicates definite gains on Alfred's part. As you will note, we are giving him two courses in English, which I am sure will meet with your approval. We realized from the start that Alfred would be unable to make a passing grade in the second year English, but we felt, on the other hand, that he would gain much for the work ahead by taking the extra work in this subject, for of course all of his work, both here and in his later college course, will be helped or hindered according to the extent of his knowledge of English and his facility in handling it. I am pleased to note that the boy has succeeded in gaining a passing grade in French, and I am sure that with this encouragement he ought to do even better from now on. Algebra still bothers him and it looks as if we could not expect him to excel in Mathematics. We shall hope, though, for better returns even in this subject as the boy becomes more familiar with his task and its peculiar demands. You will note that his general record for the term is without a flaw, and that in itself calls for hearty commendation. From all the reports that I get from Saint Mary's School, Helen is making good progress and is very happy in her surroundings. Alfred is already with Mrs. Nye, as this is our spring recess period, and Helen is due to join him there shortly.
