My dear Dr. Jack:
Let me thank you for your note advising me of your conferences with Messrs. Chang and Euston.
I note your suggestion in regard to making engagements in advance wherever possible. We will do our best to see that this is done, though it is not always easy. As a rule boys come to me for their excuses when they are on the way to Boston; and this is the first intimation I get that they are planning to call on you.
Faithfully yours

My dear Dr. Stearns
I saw young Chang yesterday. He was fearful of trachoma, but he has only a simple conjunctivitis. He has, however, only about half sight, due to apparent myopic astigmatism, and this needs correction. I think it would be safer to use belladonna, so I have asked him to make an appointment for Wednesday. He ought to be here by two o’clock, so that I can put the drops in and I will reserve him for his examination later.
Young Euston also came in and although he is having no trouble, I think it necessary to correct a little myopic astigmatism in his right eye. Arrangements have been made with him to come in next Wednesday. Chang however, will have to be told of this arrangement. I kept them waiting yesterday, because my regular appointments prevented ray giving them immediate attention. If it is possible in the future to engage time beforehand it will facilitate matters a good deal.
Trusting that you: are well and with kind regards, believe me,
Dr. Alfred E. Stearns

My dear Mr.Chen:
I hope your letter of June 24th, and shall be very glad to assume such responsibility as I can for Mr. Chang while he remained with us, or longer if you desire. As you have inferred, I have always felt a deep interest in these boys who come to us from China and who embody in their character and purpose so many traits which our American boys would do well to emulate. Please let me know if you have any special suggestions or directions by which I may be guided in dealing with Mr. Chang.
With kindest personal regards, believe me

My dear Dr. Stearns:
I am writing to inform you that I am contemplating taking a trip to China and ask you to take up the guardianship of Mr. S.K.Y. Chang, a student of your academy. Considering the fact that he is a student of your Academy and will always be near you and that you have been always a warm friend of the Chinese students, I hope you will not deem it imposing too much on my part to place this burden on your shoulders.
Mr. Chang is now staying with me in New York and will start for the Silver Bay Conference the day after tomorrow. After that, he will join the Andover Summer Camp in Maine.
With personal regards, I am
Sincerely yours,

My dear Mr. Chang:
I am very grateful to you for your kind and generous letter of January 14th. It has been a real pleasure to do what little I have done for your boy during his stay at Andover, for he has proved himself in every way worthy of our confidence and esteem. We have welcomed a fairly large group of newcomers from China this year; and I take particular satisfaction in feeling that they can look to your son for the good advice that I know he is ready to give and find in him an inspiring example of the strong and virile character that it will be to their profit to emulate.
Again thanking you for your friendly and generous letter, and with kind regards, believe me
Very sincerely yours.
