My dear Art:

Many thanks for your letter about Yung and Oromi which I find on my desk this morning on my return from New York. You may be interested to know that Tung is at present an inmate of the McLean Hospital at Waverley. His brother called me up a few days ago to ask my advice, as he was confident that the boy was mentally unbalanced. I put him in touch with Dr. Stedman in Boston, and this noon when I reached the house I learned that the boy had been definitely committed and found some papers which I am asked to sign in the capacity, I suppose, of something savoring of a guardian. Anyway I guess Dr. Hicks is safe for the present.

I am returning Dr. Irvine’s letter.
Faithfully yours,

My dear “Marcus”:

Have you a place in your cap this summer for one of our Chinese boys who is looking for a place where he can divide his trip between an study and recreation? Yung, the fellow in question, is as clean and wholesome a chap as you would often find. In my judgment he would probably be as popular with boys and instructors alike as would any Yankee in the camp. His brother, now in New Haven, called on me yesterday to take charge of the fellow for the summer, as he himself plans to sail for China next week.

Ever yours,

My dear “Marcus”:

Thank you for your prompt reply to my recent letter of inquiry. Yung came to see me yesterday, and is a bit distressed because he finds that your camp does not open until the latter part of July. He is anxious to get settled somewhere at once; and I hardly know what to do for him. At present I am making several other inquiries in the hope that I may find a camp which begins its sessions early in the summer. That seems to be the only out about the particular camp with which you have the honor to be connected

My dear Dr. Packard:

I am very grateful to you for your frank letter. In regard to Hin Wa Yang, but am sorry indeed to learn that the boy’s condition appears to be so serious. It will be some time before we can get in touch with the family in China; but in the meantime I feel that there will be no question about thse approval of Mr. Yung’s parents of the course we have taken and of their readiness to meet all proper financial obligations. At the coming meeting of our trustees, some two weeks hence, I shall ask authority to assume responsibility for the hospital debt, pending the receipt of advices from the boy’s home.

Very sincerely yours,

My dear Mr. Yung:

Many thanks for your kind letter received this morning and for your thoughtfulness in sending the Li Ghee. We shall all enjoy the nuts, I am sure, whether they are fresh or canned.

It was a great disappointment to me to miss your recent visit. Indeed I have been hoping to find the chance to drop in on you at your Boston headquarters, as I am very anxious to talk over with you your brother’s situation and to help you further, if I can, in solving that hard problem. Unfortunately I have been travelling about the country almost constantly during the past term and have been forced to let most of my personal affairs and interests "go by the board* for the time being. When I once get this job out of the way I shall hope very much to have you come out to Andover for a week-end and give me the opportunity thereby of renewing the old friendship.

With heartiest good wishes for the New Year, believe me

Very sincerely yours.

My dear Yung:

I have your interesting letter of May 10th. It seems to me unlikely that a position could be found for you in the Andover National Bank, as their work in foreign exchange is very limited. I would suggest, however, that you make application at some of the Boston banks, preferably the Merchants National. First National, Oil Colony Trust Co., ml the Massachusetts Trust Co. I happen to know pretty intimately some of the officers connected with these institutions and would be willing and glad to have you refer them to me in case they are interested in your application. If nothing materializes as a result of the adoption of this plan, let ms know and I will try to think of something else.

With best wishes, believe me always,

Very sincerely yours,
