<text>My dear Mr. Robinson:

I have your letter of recent date and am a bit surprised at the contents. I had not supposed that you expected me to pay Mr. Lee's bill, of which I had never received any notice until during the summer, out of my own pocket, or without the customary O.K. from the boy himself. As I was in the northern wilderness for my summer vacation and unable to get into communication with Lee until a few days ago only, I could not, as I thought I fully explained to you, comply with your earlier request, deeply as I regretted the fact and fully as I appreciated your own embarrassment.

Since my recent interview with the boy, in the course of which I secured the long-sought approval of the bill, I have been immersed in school work, having been back at my desk for only two or three days. I have not reached your letter which, with others, is awaiting its proper turn but should have done so, in the natural course of events, within several days at the latest. As it is I am sending a check for which I shall be pleased to have you return the accompanying receipt.

Very truly yours,

                <text>Dear Mr. Stearns,

I have just written a letter to "Tommy” Lee in which I have advised, him to resign. He received, only 46 on his Board examination in Vergil, and if he spent two hundred dollars tutoring for that one test you will see how much it will cost him to pass Latin Composition in addition, besides a third examination of one of the electives. He has passed but nine hours of college work and it seems to me that he has shown pretty clearly that he undertook too much when he transferred to the College.

We have just finished with the Board reports and I am hoping to get away from here early next week. I shall be home part of the time and then shall go to Buffalo and take a trip on the Lakes — to Duluth and return. I hope you are having a fine time up in the woods and that you will be ready for the fray in the Fall.

With best regard

Sincerely yours

Hr. Alfred E. Stearns Home Camp
