The reason why I have not paid it is, that after the school closed last June I allowed all the Chinese students under my charge to look after their own expenses, and I took it for granted that Mr. Zia had settled all his bills before he left Andover. I hope you will call my attention to other bills, if there are any, which the Chinese students have left unpaid. I have just received a letter from Mr. Ta C. Lu saying that on last Thursday night there stolen from his room a fur overcoat, another overcoat and a new suit of clothes. On this account he asks for one hundred dollars ($100.00) so that he may be able to replace the stolen articles.
