Mr. Robinson is to visit China in the near future in the interests of hie firm, and I have taken the liberty of giving him this letter of introduction to you, and one to Sir Liang. The English representative of the firm was for many years director of our musical clubs in Phillips Academy and exerted a strong and helpful influence among the boys. Ho has always been especially interested is our Chinese students, and in this interest Mr. Robinson has in a measure shared. At the time of that comparatively recent and most unpleasant incident when several Chinese students were held up by the Boston immigrant officials in a most outrageous and indecent way, Mr. Robinson took a personal interest in the case and did everything in his power to bring about a satisfactory adjustment. His efforts at that time were very deeply appreciated by all of us who knew the time and labor he devoted to the motor. It is our plan, if it can he satisfactorily arranged, to have Mr. Pearce, or some other competent instructor, give a course of lessons to those who take sufficient interest to follow them up regularly. We think that this should be done in a systematic manner and that the time for the lessons should he assigned by you or some one else in authority. We should he very glad to have Mr. Pearce go up several times a week, or as often as you think it practicable. If it is thought desirable, we will arrange to present a medal for competition among the boys of the class, and, later on, a trophy for interscholastic competition.
